Legacy in Action
Service remembered. Veterans supported.
A standing veterans program of The Poston Foundation, established in honor of Lieutenant Colonel John Fleetwood Moody and designed to support veterans facing hardship through practical relief, trusted resource connection, responsible partnerships, health and recovery awareness, and preservation of veteran service and legacy.
Charitable operator: The Poston Foundation, an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity, EIN 85-0559047. This memorial website does not process charitable contributions.
From Legacy to Service
John Fleetwood Moody (1933–2004) was a South Carolina native, Citadel graduate, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, helicopter and airplane pilot, Korea veteran, two-tour Vietnam veteran, and author of The Black Bishop. The Citadel memorial record reports two Bronze Stars and 15 Air Medals.
The Initiative uses that documented record as a human anchor for a broader veterans mission. It does not treat one veteran's life as representative of every veteran, and it does not use unsupported medical or cause-of-death claims as fundraising facts.

Program Model
The Initiative is broad enough to respond to real veteran needs while remaining disciplined about the services The Poston Foundation can responsibly provide.
Practical goods, modest short-term in-kind assistance, outreach supplies, and approved emergency-support items as capacity permits.
PTSD and suicide-prevention education, mental-health and recovery awareness, stigma reduction, resource connection, and referral to qualified providers.
Connections to VA, SCDVA, county veterans offices, accredited representatives, housing, employment, transportation, benefits resources, and community providers.
Veterans Day and commemorative activity, veteran stories, historical education, and preservation of Moody's military and literary legacy.
Complementary by Design
The Initiative is not a healthcare provider, crisis response service, law firm, or accredited veterans claims representative. It will not promise clinical treatment, direct cash grants, guaranteed housing, VA disability awards, or guaranteed benefits.
Its role is to provide practical assistance where the Foundation can do so responsibly, build reliable referral pathways, and collaborate with qualified governmental, clinical, nonprofit, and veteran-service partners.
Initial Operating Footprint
The Initiative's mission is not geographically limited to South Carolina; its initial operating footprint is. The first phase focuses on Columbia, the Midlands, and other South Carolina communities reached through responsible partners.
